The Ithaca Ballet proudly presents the timeless romantic ballet Giselle. Giselle remains one of the most popular ballets worldwide because of its compelling story. As the ballet begins, the bored, lonely (and already engaged) nobleman Count Albrecht disguises himself as a peasant and courts the beautiful peasant girl, Giselle. Although the huntsman Hilarion is in love with Giselle, she falls in love with Albrecht. However, before they are married she learns that he has deceived her and she dies of a broken heart. After death Giselle becomes one of the ghost-like Wilis, maidens who were jilted at the altar and seek revenge on every man who unwittingly enters the forest after midnight. The Wilis take vengeance by forcing the men to dance to their death. Of course, both Hilarion and Albrecht enter the forest, but Giselle’s pure love saves one of them from death.
